The 2009 film Solomon Kane is an adaptation of the classic Robert E. Howard story "Red Shadows". Director Michael J. Bassett captures the harsh reality of feudal England in this brutal portrait of 16th-century puritanism, fascism and superstition. A chilling glimpse into a barbaric past when religion ruled with fear and death could come at any moment - in battle, on the gallows or in demonic visions. The story itself is a mix between a revenge-thriller and a beast-man story. The main character, Solomon Kane, is a mythical character, created by Robert E. Howard in his short story "Black Shadows in the West", which was published in Weird Tales magazine in 1931. In this film Michael J. Bassett tries to combine old-school action with some new touches on the way the story is told. The problem with the original was that the plot of "Red Shadows" had been overused by many films of that time, but Michael J. Bassett proved to be a smart director and did not use it for this movie at all, but combined it into a more new style of storytelling. The original story (and this film as well), tells the story of the Puritan Solomon Kane who is a man who has been brought up in a religious environment and has had all kinds of religious training. From very early on he was taught about religion and the concept of God, and also about how life is, and how it's ordered. But during his lifetime, he experienced many terrible things and witnessed many evil things that made him doubt whether or not the world is as it should be. He saw too much death, too much suffering and too much injustice that he started to believe that there was no God. And that's the reason why he became a famous and feared warrior whose name means, like "the Devil's Champion", "the Man who Walks Alone". He helps those who have been wronged by society to be able to stay alive and right their wrongs. But in order for Solomon Kane to achieve his goals, he needs a lot of help from friends and also from people known as the "Devil's People". He assures that those people will keep their promise that no one will ever find out about it, because those people are from a different world from Solomon Kane's own. These people use magic powers as well as supernatural skills to help him kill his enemies without being seen by other humans. The elements that the writer and director Michael J.
